She Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect. She Just Keeps Showing Up.
Jen walked into Prototype in March of 2021, masks on and the world still half shut. She had run the Boston Marathon and done a few triathlons, so she knew how to work out. What she didn’t have yet was a room full of people who knew her name. Five and a half years later, she has her 6 AM Rockers, a husband who trains in the 5 AM class, and on October 14 she logged her 1,000th class with us.
She does it while working full time and running carpool for three kids. Prototype is the one thing she does just for herself, and it shows. Her yearly class count has gone up every single year she has been here.
Our coaches hand-select each Prototype of the Month based on work ethic, effort, attendance, and the energy someone brings to the gym. Jen earns this one in every category.
In Jen’s Own Words
What’s your favorite memory or moment at the gym?
“Honestly, all of it! From WOD-O-WEEN to the Prototype Open and family events, there are so many great memories. But what I love most is the everyday stuff with my 6 AM Rockers. Some of my most meaningful friendships have come from Prototype. I love the laughter, the swearing, the wildly inappropriate jokes, and being able to completely be myself.
I’ll never forget the morning Coach Jon asked about our favorite fall activity, and Mandy and I both heard ball activity. We just looked at each other and lost it. ð That pretty much sums up our mornings!”
Who at Prototype has made the biggest impact on you?
“How could I possibly pick one person?! My 6 AM Rockers inspire me, keep me grounded, and help me get out of my own head when I start overthinking (right, Reb? ð). Although I’m still thinking about that time I took Reb’s rower three years ago! Melanie Malletta deserves a medal for keeping me focused when my ADHD goes off the rails.
A special shout-out to Nicole St. Pierre, who inspired me to stop drinking over three years ago. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made! I love that saucy little minx! âĪïļ
Gillian Barry has helped me so much with training, nutrition, and pushing myself. I’d convinced myself I couldn’t run anymore because of my back (based on absolutely no medical expertise ð), but she encouraged me to try again and work on my form. I even completed the HYROX simulation, which I never would’ve imagined doing!
And, I’m grateful for all the amazing coaches, too!”
What are your hobbies and activities outside Prototype?
“Right now, with three kids, their hobbies are basically my hobbies! ðĪŠ I’m an elite carpooler! I love watching them do what they love and having a house full of their friends. As for me, I love cooking, reading, spending time with friends, and taking naps with my fat yellow Lab, Warren. I’ve also loved being part of the Prototype Book Club this past year. Thanks, Liz! âĪïļ”
How has Prototype helped you?
“Between working full-time and keeping up with three kids, life gets pretty busy! Prototype is something I do for myself, and I honestly can’t imagine my life without it. I get to start my day working out, laughing, and spending time with some of my favorite people. It’s fitness, friendship, and fun all rolled into one, and it sets the tone for the rest of my day. I also love that Lucas has joined and feels just as at home there as I do. It’s become something we share, and that makes it even more special.”
What are you training toward right now?
“I want to keep getting stronger, pushing myself, and seeing what I can do! I want to be like my 6 AM big sisters, who remind me that getting older just means more opportunities to get better and that the best is yet to come! Especially Ann Leahy, who blows my mind every week when she’s adding more weight to the bar at almost 60 years old!
I’d also like to start showing up on time, but I could never leave Coreen to walk in alone. We’ve earned that egregiously late award together! ð”
From the data: Jen’s class count has climbed every year, from 97 in 2021 to 238 in 2025 . She is already at 193 for 2026 with two months to go.
