Now that Prototype Training Systems is operating classes and training sessions indoors and outdoors, we wanted to share with you our simple system and procedure around COVID-19. As transparency and active communication are important to us at Prototype, the more information we arm you with the better off you will be!

While we are doing everything in our power to maintain the cleanest facility in the area and abide by the procedures set forth by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the CDC guidelines , it’s important to have a process in the event of potential COVID-19 exposure.

That’s why I am writing this blog post today to share with you our process in the event of a worst-case scenario.

Before I get into this, I believe we are all aware at this point of the best practices around preventing COVID-19, but if you aren’t please review that information below:

As a reminder, common COVID-19 symptoms are (but not limited to):

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of Breath
  • Sore Throat
  • Loss of taste or smell

What to do if you have signs and symptoms of COVID-19

  1. If you start to experience signs and symptoms of COVID-19, DO NOT RETURN TO THE PHYSICAL LOCATION OF THE GYM UNTIL CLEARED BY A DOCTOR OR UNTIL SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS GO AWAY (10-14 DAYS).
  2. Contact your doctor or health professional immediately to schedule a test OR immediately go to a testing site.
  3. Contact the owner or head coach to communicate with them about your signs and symptoms or a positive test.
    1. Communicate with them when you started to experience symptoms.
      1. The owner or Head Coach will review our COVID-19 Exposure Questionnaire with you to gain further understanding.
    2. Your history of exposure to people within the organization or members.
      1. Tell them everyone who you were in contact with over the past 72 hours and when.
  4. Self Quarantine for 10-14 days (or per doctors’ orders) with no exposure to others.
  5. Communicate with Prototype Head Coach prior to your return to exercise.

What Prototype management does if a team member or client has signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and tests positive

  1. Communicate with the individual who has had either a.) a positive COVID-19 test OR b.) that is experiencing signs and symptoms of COVID-19.
  2. Instruct them to get tested (if they haven’t) or to self-quarantine for at least 10-14 days.
  3. Gather a list of the individuals who were OR potentially were exposed to the infected member/team member (fill out COVID Exposure Form )
    • In the event of exposure, immediately communicate with those specific individuals about the exposure risk. CALL THEM, EMAIL AND TEXT.
    • Send out a mass communication to staff and members about what is going on
      • Email
      • Private Facebook Group
  4. Head Coach immediately gets coverage for infected team members classes or training sessions for the next 10-14 days.
  5. The gym and equipment are immediately and thoroughly deep cleaned and disinfected by our cleaning service. The indoor training component of our facility will be shut down until that deep cleaning occurs.

Communication is incredibly important to us. So bottom line, if you aren’t feeling well stay home. Participate in one of our virtual classes for a bit. If your signs and symptoms progress, make sure you get tested at one of the locations near you. Here is a link to the COVID-19 sitemap for your reference.

At the end of the day, if someone comes to Prototype and finds out that they have been exposed, we will let you know ASAP and specifically communicate with those people who may have had direct exposure ( Contact tracing will be completed! ) to the individual.

Our priority is keeping you safe and always to be transparent!

Now stay safe and if you don’t feel well, stay put!

Greg is an amazing part of our community — consistent, encouraging, and ready to get after it. He truly represents what the PTS community is all about. Prototype of the Month is well deserved! Below, he answers a few questions about his time at PTS. Share your experience at Prototype—favorite memories, moments, or stories or what’s your favorite part/what do you look forward to? I definitely look forward to that feeling of clarity after finishing up a workout. I feel ready to tackle the rest of the day. Sometimes I have trouble getting mentally ready for a tough looking metcon, but I always feel better afterwards. Who at Prototype has made the biggest impact on you and why? All the coaches and members are great, I look forward to seeing everyone when I am there, but the person who has made the biggest impact is Bridget Owens. She is my motivation and always pushes me to keep going and push myself to get better. What are your hobbies and activities outside the gym? I love cycling and mountain biking, the workouts at prototype have definitely helped improve my fitness so that I can do better on the bike even though I don’t get out as often as I would like. Also spending time with my family, grilling and BBQing when the weather is nice and getting to the beach in the summer. How has Prototype helped you or solved a problem for you? Prototype has helped enormously with my level of anxiety, I was really struggling when we first moved into town, the community and workouts at Prototype have been a life saver for my mental health. What are your current fitness goals? I want to get better at gymnastics, maybe get some toes to the bar. Favorite Quote Two Quotes: “Bone on bone, stack it” -Jon “Activate the lower half” -Brian

Devon is a fantastic part of our community — always kind, coachable, easy-going, and consistently putting in the work. She shows up, supports others, and truly represents what PTS is all about. Prototype of the Month is well deserved! Below, she answers a few questions about her time at PTS. 1.) Share your experience at Prototype After what felt like an entire year of sitting during grad school, I knew I wanted to be more active. I came back to Prototype, and it was the best decision. I’ve made so many new friends here who make every class fun (no matter how tough the workout is) but my favorite moment has to be meeting my boyfriend Ed! 2.) What is your favorite part about being at Prototype? I used to do at-home workouts and always felt like something was missing. When I came to Prototype, it felt like I finally found that missing piece, the community! It truly makes a huge impact. Everyone here genuinely wants the best for you. 3.) What are your hobbies and activities? If I’m outside, I love playing pickleball, skiing, and going for walks. And if I'm inside I enjoy crocheting, reading, or baking! 4.) How has Prototype helped you or solved a problem for you? Prototype has shown me that if you put your mind to something, you can truly do hard things. I also know I will always feel better after going to the gym. Sometimes the hardest part is just getting in the car, but I never regret it once I’m there. 5.) What are you continuing fitness goals to this point? To get some form of movement everyday and to one day get a pull up. 6.)
