What We Are Doing To Keep You Safe

By: Michael Collette (Owner of Prototype Training Systems)

As we move into the next phase of indoor training at Prototype, it’s important to us to continue to communicate everything we are doing to keep you (our Prototype family) as safe as possible. As of Monday, November 9th, all of our classes and training will be fully indoors. As the weather is getting colder here in Massachusetts, our outdoor training needs to be brought inside.

Below is a comprehensive list of all the things that we are doing, have done, and will continue to do to keep you safe.

  • Operating at less than 50% of total capacity

      • Per the State of Massachusetts guidelines and regulations , we are operating at 50% of the maximum capacity of our facility or 10 people per 1,000 square feet. If you do not have an occupancy number on file, the number to use is 10 people per 1,000 square feet.
        1. The building department informed us that there was no occupancy number put on the occupancy permit.
        2. Our total square footage is just over 7000 sq/ft which means we can have 70 people at Prototype at once.
        3. We are limiting that to half of that at our facility at a time. So the max occupancy you will see at Prototype is roughly 25-30% based on the guidelines.

  • PPE Policy (Face Mask)

      • A mask must be worn upon entry into the facility and anytime where the participant is not in their designated training area.
      • If you cannot maintain a 6-foot social distance, you will be required to wear a facemask.
      • You will not be required to wear a facemask when exercising in your training space unless you are not able to maintain proper distancing.
      • If you would like to wear a mask you are able to

  • Improved air duct filtration and air-flow

      • Germicidal UV lights
        1. Ultraviolet energy (ultraviolet germicidal irradiation or germicidal ultraviolet) could be a powerful tool in the fight against COVID-19.
        2. This is an additional element we have added to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
      • MERV-13 Filters
        1. Research has shown that the particle size of the SARS-CoV-2 virus is around 0.1 µm (micrometer).  However, the virus does not travel through the air by itself.  Since it is human-generated, the virus is trapped in respiratory droplets and droplet nuclei (dried respiratory droplets) that are predominantly 1 µm in size and larger. ASHRAE currently recommends using a minimum MERV 13 filter, which is efficient at capturing particles in 1 µm to 3 µm size range.
      • Doors will remain open with fans pushing air out of the facility

  • Additional Standalone Air Purifiers

      • One in each bathroom, back office, front desk, and lobby area
      • HEPA filters (“high-efficiency particulate arresting”-HEPA)
        1. “Air purifiers with HEPA filters are highly effective at filtering out viruses such as the COVID-19 coronavirus.”

  • Outlined and marked training space

      • 8×8 (64 sq/ft) training spaces marked by 2-foot lanes around the perimeters
      • We have 33 designated training stations throughout the facility
      • Each station will be outfitted with a physical barrier around them
      • Additional barriers are being constructed

  • Class capacity

      • We limit 15 participants per indoor group class
      • All classes must be reserved prior to with WODIFY
      • Class reservation window is 7 days prior to class
      • Class sign in is 24 hours prior to class
A phone screen shows the time of 12:00 pm and 3:30 pm
  • All members required to sign COVID agreement prior to participating in training

      • This is sent to each member through WODIFY and can be signed digitally. This is an agreement with our protocols.
  • Prototype COVID Advisory Board

    • We have created a COVID advisory board made up of 7 of our members who are Medical Doctors, Nurse practitioners, and individuals working on the front line to be our advisors on COVID-related decisions.
    • We have been transparent about your safety and we have been transparent that we do not know everything so we have created an advisory board to refer to when having to make decisions related to COVID-19 protocols.
    • More information on this Board will be out soon.
  • Virtual Class and Virtual Coaching Options

    • Since Quarantine in March, we have pivoted all our training to be accessible to a virtual model.
      1. Group classes, 1-1 training, small group training, specialty classes, and nutrition consulting are all available through virtual delivery.
    • We have also added a Virtual Coaching option for those that are not open to coming indoors OR utilizing virtual classes.
      1. Virtual Coaching is a custom program delivered to you based on your goals. A coach connects with you to get an understanding of how often you would like OR need to exercise, what you specifically want to work on and what equipment you have available to you.
      2. Your program is delivered to you and you have a personal coach to hold you accountable and check in on you with your adherence to your program.

Again it’s important to us to keep you updated on all that we are doing, all that we have done, and all that we will continue to do. There is much more to come and we are all in this together. We appreciate your continued support and we are so grateful to be able to continue to serve you and help you all towards your fitness goals!

1.) Share your experience at Prototype It’s hard to believe that I have been part of the Prototype family for almost a year!! I remember looking at a photo of myself last Mother’s Day & couldn’t believe that in a relatively short time, I had gained so much weight. Being a Mom of 3, & working full time had taken priority over exercising & working out. My daughter Caroline wanted to check things out at Prototype for soccer strength training, as my son Jack has had a positive experience since he joined in 2020. When Caroline & I came in for an initial meeting with Steve, I knew I had to prioritize myself & start my own fitness journey. I quickly realized that I couldn’t do my best for others if I didn’t start with bettering myself first. 2.) What is your favorite part about being at Prototype? Initially I needed accountability to to get myself here. I worked out because I didn’t want to let anyone down. I had a planned workout & I needed to show up. Then, I started to see a shift in my body- I was building muscle, sleeping better, losing weight & feeling better about myself. The hard work was starting to paying off!!! I also love working out with my kids- Jack & Caroline. Emily is coming soon & then hoping to get the Mr in! 3.) What are your hobbies and activities? I love spending time watching my kids play sports. 4.) How has Prototype helped you or solved a problem for you? I recently started a new position at work which requires me to present to larger groups. I feel so much more confident. I am surrounded by really smart people here- they motivate me professionally & physically. 5.) What are you continuing fitness goals to this point? Fitness & strength training is a journey. I have formed strong, consistent habits that I am now able to maintain on my own. It doesn’t end with me fitting into a smaller pant size (which I am so happy to say I am!!) it evolves. I watch my 83 year old Father thrive because he lives by moving his body & exercises his mind. That’s my goal & PTS helps me everyday with that!!

How we are using Ai at Prototype and how its just beginning

Yesterday was a great reminder of what a little friendly competition can do. We set up a simple 1-v-1 game: kids had to sprint, tap two cones, and race back to knock over a foam roller. Nothing fancy, just movement, focus, and a clear goal. But something cool happened. The second it became head-to-head, the energy shifted. Kids were locked in. They ran harder. They pushed themselves—not because they were told to, but because someone else was giving it their all too. Even the kids watching got invested—shouting encouragement, clapping for effort, reacting to every close finish. That sense of shared experience, of community rooted in challenge, is exactly what youth development should be about. It was a perfect example of how competition, even in its simplest form, can bring out motivation and effort . Not for a prize, but just for the challenge of it. More Than a Game: The Real Value of Friendly Competition In today’s world of participation medals and well-meaning “everyone wins” culture, it’s easy to misunderstand the role of competition. But when designed thoughtfully and guided with intention, competition doesn’t diminish self-worth—it enhances it. According to a 2019 study published in Frontiers in Psychology, structured competition can lead to higher intrinsic motivation, improved self-esteem, and a greater sense of personal accomplishment in youth participants (Bonfiglio et al., 2019). When kids compete, they learn that effort yields results. They learn how to win graciously—and perhaps more importantly—how to lose with resilience. They discover the value of hard work, discipline, and focus. They get to ask: “How fast can I be?” “How far can I push myself?” And, “What happens if I try just a little harder?” The Pride in Performance There’s a moment—right after a child finishes a race, or a round of a competitive game—where they catch their breath, stand a little taller, and smile. Whether they won or not is almost secondary. What matters is that they showed up and gave their best effort. That sense of pride? That’s not vanity. It’s the birth of confidence. And when that confidence is built through movement, through play, through sweating and trying and doing—it sticks. Not just in sport, but in school, at home, in friendships, and beyond. Final Thoughts Competition, when framed the right way, helps kids build confidence, stay motivated, and take pride in their effort. It’s not about winning — it’s about showing up, trying hard, and learning what they’re capable of. At its best, competition doesn’t separate kids — it brings them together, showing them how to push themselves while supporting each other along the way.
