Mike Collette • April 6, 2021

The Prototype Open has certainly picked up and we are through WEEK 4 and it was an EPIC week of action!

To see the breakdown and overview of Week 4, you will want to check that out below as we have all the scores, highlights, and stats that will certainly blow your mind! So scroll down and check it out!

Prototype Open Challenge 4.4

Unlike previous years of  The Prototype Open , each week we will be releasing a challenge that can earn you some additional points for your team. Each challenge will have a time cap to get it done (24 hours for most) and will have multiple levels that you can participate in based on your level of fitness OR how hard you want to work A yellow smiley face with a big smile on it.

Here was Challenge 4.4:

This challenge had levels to it so EVERYONE had the opportunity to participate and earn points for their team!

Prototype Open 21.5

Historically, The Prototype Open follows the CrossFit Games Open workouts as they are announced every Thursday night at 8 pm ET. A BIG difference this year is that The CrossFit Open was only a 3 week format SO, 21.3 and 21.4 were supposed to be the final workouts of The Open BUTTTTT, since we have been running our intramural style event (The Prototype Open) we have stuck with a 5 week format!

So that means we get to create the final 2 weeks workouts and we hope we didn’t disappoint! I tried my best to replicate  Dave Castro of CrossFit HQ for the 21.5 announcement!

With that being said, the two final weeks are also PARTNER-style workouts, which makes it a heck of a lot more fun because it’s always fun working out with a friend!

In case you didn’t do 21.5 and are reading this here was the workout:

The great thing about this year’s CrossFit Open is that they have multiple versions of the workout that have made it incredibly more inclusive to people, especially since we have been living in a year where many people couldn’t come into a gym.

Here was the workout in more detail along with the movement standards:

After the announcement of 21.5, we had two pairs from each team go head to head! These barbell ladies got after it and absolutely CRUSHED 21.5!  That fun went down LIVE in our Members Only Group on Facebook that night!

Shout out to Caitlin Jaeger and Bethany Farrar of The Light Side, and Annie Powell and Liz Nasser The Dark Side for going head to head to earn some extra points for their team! The Light Side came out victorious and earned some much-needed extra points for their team! Here are some pics from the head to head!

After the head-to-head battle royale, everyone got a little less sleep due to the stress that the Open creates. But it’s ok because the house was PACKED at every class on Friday (packed for COVID…) and nearly EVERYONE got this workout in! And if they didn’t do it on Friday, they got it in at open gym on Sunday (10am-12pm during the Open) OR at the  8am or 9am THRIVE class  on Monday!

Here are some action shots from 21.5!

Week 4 Passion and Performance Points:

Now, the part you’ve all been waiting for or scrolling for…the results of Week 4! Before you scroll down and check the score, we have to give a HUGE shout-out to a few people who earned some extra points for their team. We call these our PASSION POINTS.

Each week, the team at Prototype selects 1 INDIVIDUAL (in this case, team) to receive 5 additional points for their efforts during that week. Now, for week 4 since we had teams of 2, we still picked an individual of that group that got the extra points for their pair.

  • Hardest Working
  • Most Spirit
  • Top Performer

Shout out to the folks below for earning these points for their team this week! Check them out below!!

Additionally, the Top 20 scores the partnered teams gain an additional 3 points for their teams. Since we had a mix of male/male, female/female, and male/female teams we still picked the Top 20 sores. It was pretty balanced between both teams however, the men and the women of The Dark Side took a slight edge this week with 12 top scores vs. 8 top scores from The Light Side.

Week 4 Final Scores (21.5):

Again, it was a battle this week as we had over 90% of the 196 people who signed up for The Prototype Open participate in 21.5!!! But, this week The Dark Side took it and have a substantial lead over The Light Side.

So as it stands right now, The Dark Side is running away with this BUT we have something up our sleeve for Week 5 so it’s still anyone’s game! Here is the score update through 4 weeks:

Now… What do you think 21.6 will be?! We have our FINAL head to head Thursday Night at 7PM LIVE in the Members Group! AND on Friday this week we are bringing back FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS! So reserve a heat time (8 heats, 6 teams per heat) for Friday as the first heat goes off at 3:30pm!

Sharang is a standout part of the Prototype community—steady, positive, and always putting in the work—and his commitment to consistency, camaraderie, and long-term progress makes him a perfect example of what PTS is all about. Below he answers some questions and shares his experience. Share your experience at Prototype—favorite memories, moments, or stories or what’s your favorite part/what do you look forward to? What stands out most about Prototype is the camaraderie. The members, especially in the 7AM and Noon classes, create a great balance of fun and focus. Everyone is friendly and supportive, but when it’s time to work, people take the WODs seriously and push themselves to improve. That combination can be hard to find. All the coaches play a huge role in setting that tone. My favorite moments are the everyday ones i.e. showing up, putting in the work together, leaving class feeling accomplished. What I look forward to most is continuing to train alongside people who genuinely enjoy the process and want to get better. “Because summer’s coming.” Who at Prototype has made the biggest impact on you and why? As a dad of two young daughters, the people who’ve made the biggest impact on me at Prototype are the women in the gym. They all train with confidence, strength, consistency and set a powerful example. It’s the kind of environment I hope my daughters grow up seeing where strength is normal and earned. What are your hobbies and activities outside the gym? I dabble a bit in photography, star gazing and love to travel. Playing atrocious golf. How has Prototype helped you or solved a problem for you? Prototype has helped me stay active. There’s a real sense of happiness and accomplishment after each workout, and that feeling has become addictive in the best way. Knowing I’ll leave class feeling stronger, physically and mentally, keeps me coming back. Prototype has turned working out from something I should do into something I genuinely want to do, which has made a huge difference in maintaining a sustainable fitness routine. What are your current fitness goals? Steady progress and longevity. If I can keep lifting, moving well, and feeling good years from now, I’ll consider that a win. I hope my future self will thank my present self. Favorite Quote If you can’t explain it simply you don't understand it well enough.

Greg is an amazing part of our community — consistent, encouraging, and ready to get after it. He truly represents what the PTS community is all about. Prototype of the Month is well deserved! Below, he answers a few questions about his time at PTS. Share your experience at Prototype—favorite memories, moments, or stories or what’s your favorite part/what do you look forward to? I definitely look forward to that feeling of clarity after finishing up a workout. I feel ready to tackle the rest of the day. Sometimes I have trouble getting mentally ready for a tough looking metcon, but I always feel better afterwards. Who at Prototype has made the biggest impact on you and why? All the coaches and members are great, I look forward to seeing everyone when I am there, but the person who has made the biggest impact is Bridget Owens. She is my motivation and always pushes me to keep going and push myself to get better. What are your hobbies and activities outside the gym? I love cycling and mountain biking, the workouts at prototype have definitely helped improve my fitness so that I can do better on the bike even though I don’t get out as often as I would like. Also spending time with my family, grilling and BBQing when the weather is nice and getting to the beach in the summer. How has Prototype helped you or solved a problem for you? Prototype has helped enormously with my level of anxiety, I was really struggling when we first moved into town, the community and workouts at Prototype have been a life saver for my mental health. What are your current fitness goals? I want to get better at gymnastics, maybe get some toes to the bar. Favorite Quote Two Quotes: “Bone on bone, stack it” -Jon “Activate the lower half” -Brian
