The New Prototype Training Systems and Our Affiliation with CrossFit

Mike Collette • July 22, 2020

If you didn’t know, we have been cranking away on a lot of projects around Prototype. We even renovated our space to be more efficient and cleanlier for you as we start indoor training at our facility. If you haven’t yet, watch the video below! But before you do I want to address our affiliation with CrossFit.

On June 8th, 2020 I sent a letter to you all telling you how disappointed I was in the actions of former CEO and Owner of CrossFit Inc, Greg Glassman. That disappointment led us to making the decision to no longer be an affiliate of CrossFit.

This decision was incredibly challenging, however, it was also an easy decision for us to make at the same time. It was challenging because we love CrossFit. We believe that it’s the most effective training program on the planet and we believe in the community. However, the actions and directions Greg was taking the company were against our values. When you have core values, it allows you to make easy decisions when something you’re conflicted with goes against them.

This one man’s words and actions led hundreds of affiliates to separate themselves from the brand and it moved the needle in the right direction to create change. I am proud to say that we were part of that. You were part of that!

Over the next couple of days, Greg Glassman stepped down as CEO of CrossFit. As we all know, if you own a company outright and step down as CEO, you are still the owner.

This action wasn’t enough.

In the following days, Eric held a live YouTube interview with Dave Castro (Director of Training; interim CEO at CrossFit) to get to know the community. I was able to tune into that and it was encouraging hearing the things Eric had to say and his vision for CrossFit.

Shortly after, Eric has begun to make some major changes to CrossFit.  Those big changes are outlined in the article attached here.

The reality is, Eric has shown the characteristics of a great leader, something that wasn’t prevalent while Greg was there. He has ignited a new spark in the CrossFit community. He is taking action on making change. And he is someone I can follow.

With these changes and where we believe CrossFit is heading, we believe we are more aligned than ever.

That is why I wanted to announce to all of you that we will remain an affiliate of CrossFit. Our facility will continue it’s rebranding to  Prototype Training Systems (Home of CrossFit Prototype)  as per our communication. We believe that Prototype is much more than a CrossFit affiliate. To be candid, we believe that for several years what we have provided for the local community extends beyond CrossFit classes. Our model is prescriptive. We don’t believe in a one size fits all approach. We offer so much more than CrossFit and we will continue to build on our vision of creating the greatest relationship business.

It’s important to me to be transparent with you and to let you know where Prototype is going. I can’t thank you enough for being on this journey with us, it truly means the world to me.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. Feel free to email me and if you are interested in any of our programs or starting back up at Prototype, we will welcome you back with open arms!

I appreciate you.
