R.E.D: We wear Red on Fridays

A red t-shirt with the word red on it

We wear red on Fridays. We wear red to Remember Everyone Deployed (R.E.D). A small gesture that means so much more than people realize.

Wearing red on Fridays became a tradition at Prototype a few years ago and candidly, I didn’t know the origin story until recently (if you want to read it here it is!).

But the inspiration behind why I wanted our community to participate was because of my frequent trips to fellow affiliate, Upper Cape CrossFit.

One Friday morning I dropped into a workout at UCCF. Before I left to go, my mother in law said: “Mike, make sure to wear a red shirt, it’s Red Shirt Friday!”. My first thought was, “why red?” Then I looked at what her red shirt said: “Remember Everyone Deployed” (R.E.D). I then thought, wow, what an amazing way to show unity and gratitude for the brave men and women protecting our freedom.

Shortly after, our team made the decision to participate.

We announced going forward on Fridays we would wear red. It doesn’t matter if it’s a shirt or tank top and if you don’t have a redshirt or tank to wear something red.

Community and honoring our servicemen and women is incredibly important to us at Prototype. It’s the least we can do to support them!

So every Friday going forward, we will wear red to Remember Everyone Deployed.

To honor those heroes oversees and that have given the ultimate sacrifice.

If you’re a member at Prototype (whether a tenured member or new to our community), set a reminder every Friday to wear red.

And if you’re reading this and you’re not a member at Prototype, it’s not hard to show your support for the troops.

Just wear something red on Friday.

If you want to take your support deeper, honor a fallen serviceman or woman with a Hero WOD, volunteer, raise money for an organization that supports our heroes or you can simply just thank a veteran for all that they’ve done.

Tim has been an incredible part of our community — always positive, funny, generous, and willing to help. His energy makes everyone around him better. Prototype of the Month is well deserved! Below he answers some questions about his time at PTS. 1.) Share your experience at Prototype This actually isn’t my first stint at Prototype - I’ve been around and worked out here a few times in my heyday. My very first legitimate class though, as a member, was 5am earlier this year and I was welcomed first by Nicole. You can all imagine how that interaction went… and I came back! Prototype is welcoming, fun, clean, and I’ve made amazing friends along the way. It is one of the best hours of my day. 2.) What is your favorite part about being at Prototype? Prototype is not just another workout but a mental reset for me, it fills my cup. 3.) What are your hobbies and activities? Activities mostly involve time with my family outside whenever we can, trips to Ptown and traveling all over for work. I have a hard time sitting still and typically keep a busy schedule. Mix in photography and interior design opportunities with fitness and family and I’d say that's my perfect mix. 4.) How has Prototype helped you or solved a problem for you? I work remotely so in person face to face conversation is something I’ve found I need for my mental health. I’m also super competitive so I tend to push a little harder when I workout with others. 5.) What are you continuing fitness goals to this point? I want to be a parent who can show up for their kids in every aspect of life, which also means physically. Staying fit is important to be able to keep up with them as we collectively get older. I am training for a few Hyrox races coming up but mostly just trying to maintain my current level of fitness for as long as possible. 6.)
