Today marks the 6 month anniversary of EMPOWERED! We have had over 135 people participate in our diet culture programs and I have had over 27 clients participate in Empowered nutrition and training services. Over this past year I witnessed so many of you find strength both inside and outside, it was truly inspiring. I AM SOOOO EXCITED to see what 2021 holds. We’ve got new services, new programs, some other Coaches are getting involved and more!

The goal of Prototype Empowered in 2021 is to help each of you find new levels of Empowerment. By owning your story and history we can show up as our authentic selves while holding space for healing.

If you are ready to get started with your Empowered Journey   or are interested in understanding how your story impacts your current level of fitness and motivation, book a Goal Review Session with me here: IT’S TOTALLY FREE! In the least you may understand yourself a little bit better.

We have a lot of really exciting things in the works so read below! Remember these programs are open to anyone, members and non-members alike.

New Certifications & Services

I’ve been working really hard on my continuing education and credentials to be able to provide safe, effective and holistic services for you all.

TRAUMA INFORMED WEIGHT LIFTING CERTIFICATION

I have finished a month long extensive course in Trauma informed weight lifting and wellness coaching. What does this mean? Did you know that 80% of people have experienced a traumatic event? Trauma is any event or series of events that compromises and overwhelms our ability to cope. Trauma causes significant impairment to the nervous system and can show up in muscle aches, pain, anxiety, decreased performance, increased fatigue, emotional dysregulation, altered metabolism and decreased motivation. This training enables me to work in the realm of life coaching for those who have endured significant life stressors. The trauma of Covid has impacted many of us who are seeing stress and trauma show up in the form of injury or decreased recovery. As a trauma survivor myself, I understand the unique struggles that permeate nearly every aspect of life.

Now I am able to help you with your struggles and will be listed in a Global Directory of Trauma Informed Coaches! This certification is the first of its kind. I will use this new method of coaching in mentorship that focuses on a prescribed combination of:

  • Nutrition
  • Weight Lifting
  • Injury Prevention/Bridging from Physical Therapy
  • Mind-Body regulation
  • Life Coaching
  • Habit Changing

So that you can live your most authentic and Empowered life!

Re-Upped Exercise Physiologist Credentials

I re-upped my Exercise Physiologist Credentials so that I would be able to better serve people with secondary conditions and considerations. What is an Exercise Physiologist? Exercise physiologists  analyze a patient’s medical history to determine the best possible  exercise  and fitness regimen.  Exercise physiologists  develop fitness and  exercise programs that help patients recover from chronic diseases and improve cardiovascular function, body composition, and flexibility. I’m looking forward to collaborating more with our on-site Dietician, Sam Hally to help provide services to all walks of life.

WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP CERTIFICATION

I have completed a certificate for Women In Leadership that has exposed me to many different theories on leadership and how we can become the leaders in our own lives. This will help me help YOU reclaim a sense of agency and control in these chaotic and stressful times.

Research with the Center for Embodiment and Justice Resource Institute on Weightlifting as an Adjunct Intervention for Healing from Emotional Stress & Trauma

I am honored to have been interviewed and to collect data for the Justice Research Institute and Center for Embodiment in addition to the Trauma Informed Weightlifting Certification. This research project is examining weightlifting and high intensity exercise such as CrossFit or Olympic Lifting as an adjunct intervention to trauma and stress. By participating in this research program we will be able to produce protocols that allow Coaches to better serve their clientele. To be able to use my own traumatic experiences to help others is a silver lining!

What’s Next?

USAW Weightlifting Certification

To pair with the Trauma informed weightlifting portion of my new certification. While I have my Strength and Conditioning License, this certification will allow me to help those overcoming trauma find healing in the olympic lifts.

OWN YOUR STORY

Telling your story—while being witnessed with  support from others who care may be one of the most powerful catalysts for overcoming obstacles. I will be working hard with each client to develop their own unique story throughout their wellness journey.

This past month I published a blog post about my client Mary DiRienzo who developed strength both inside and out through using her voice, sharing her story and by consistently weight lifting. I look forward to interviewing and speaking with you about your encounters and experiences with empowered coaching so far.

If you missed it you can check it out here:   https://prototypetraining.com/client-spotlight-mary-dirienzo-finding-resiliency/

COMING SOON! Self- Defense Class!

National Sexual Assault and Awareness Month is coming up in April. Covid came and the world stopped along with many of the self- defense classes that have been offered to women. While Covid may have stopped classes, the reality is that Covid cannot stop assault.

This VIRTUAL offering will introduce situational awareness and practical application of skills in dangerous situations. You do not need to be a martial artist to get out of a scary situation.

The virtual component means that you may want to have an advocate in the room with you to practice on OR a daughter/friend who you have already been quarantined with.

Net proceeds will be donated to help victims of assault.

Greg is an amazing part of our community — consistent, encouraging, and ready to get after it. He truly represents what the PTS community is all about. Prototype of the Month is well deserved! Below, he answers a few questions about his time at PTS. Share your experience at Prototype—favorite memories, moments, or stories or what’s your favorite part/what do you look forward to? I definitely look forward to that feeling of clarity after finishing up a workout. I feel ready to tackle the rest of the day. Sometimes I have trouble getting mentally ready for a tough looking metcon, but I always feel better afterwards. Who at Prototype has made the biggest impact on you and why? All the coaches and members are great, I look forward to seeing everyone when I am there, but the person who has made the biggest impact is Bridget Owens. She is my motivation and always pushes me to keep going and push myself to get better. What are your hobbies and activities outside the gym? I love cycling and mountain biking, the workouts at prototype have definitely helped improve my fitness so that I can do better on the bike even though I don’t get out as often as I would like. Also spending time with my family, grilling and BBQing when the weather is nice and getting to the beach in the summer. How has Prototype helped you or solved a problem for you? Prototype has helped enormously with my level of anxiety, I was really struggling when we first moved into town, the community and workouts at Prototype have been a life saver for my mental health. What are your current fitness goals? I want to get better at gymnastics, maybe get some toes to the bar. Favorite Quote Two Quotes: “Bone on bone, stack it” -Jon “Activate the lower half” -Brian

Devon is a fantastic part of our community — always kind, coachable, easy-going, and consistently putting in the work. She shows up, supports others, and truly represents what PTS is all about. Prototype of the Month is well deserved! Below, she answers a few questions about her time at PTS. 1.) Share your experience at Prototype After what felt like an entire year of sitting during grad school, I knew I wanted to be more active. I came back to Prototype, and it was the best decision. I’ve made so many new friends here who make every class fun (no matter how tough the workout is) but my favorite moment has to be meeting my boyfriend Ed! 2.) What is your favorite part about being at Prototype? I used to do at-home workouts and always felt like something was missing. When I came to Prototype, it felt like I finally found that missing piece, the community! It truly makes a huge impact. Everyone here genuinely wants the best for you. 3.) What are your hobbies and activities? If I’m outside, I love playing pickleball, skiing, and going for walks. And if I'm inside I enjoy crocheting, reading, or baking! 4.) How has Prototype helped you or solved a problem for you? Prototype has shown me that if you put your mind to something, you can truly do hard things. I also know I will always feel better after going to the gym. Sometimes the hardest part is just getting in the car, but I never regret it once I’m there. 5.) What are you continuing fitness goals to this point? To get some form of movement everyday and to one day get a pull up. 6.)
