Showing Up For Seven Years — And Counting
Chris Lacasse joined Prototype in August of 2018, and over the past seven-plus years he’s become one of the most consistent, engaged, and well-loved members of our community. The Lacasses were also one of the very first families to join our Family Membership program — a program built around our mission to get families training together, doing hard things side by side, and building the kind of shared experiences that hold a household together. Chris has lived that mission from day one.
Six CrossFit Open seasons. Eight Murphs. More than a thousand Adult Group classes on the books. A dad who works fully remote and treats this gym as the place where his social life happens — and somewhere along the way, became one of the people the rest of us look forward to seeing in the morning.
Our coaches hand-select each Prototype of the Month based on work ethic, effort, attendance, and the overall energy someone brings to the gym. Chris has earned this recognition in every category — and right now, in particular, in the way he’s approached the biggest health challenge of his life with the same steady consistency he brings to everything else.
In Chris’s Own Words
What’s your favorite memory or moment at the gym?
“My favorite thing about Prototype is getting to see friends every day. No matter what time I come in for a workout, I know I’ll see some familiar faces and one of my favorite coaches. For the past 6 years, I’ve worked 100% remotely, which has been challenging not seeing people all day through work, and Prototype has become the place where I get social connection and can hang with like-minded people.”
Who at Prototype has been most transformative for you?
“Easy answer on this one. Jon has been my coach since early in my Prototype journey and is someone I consider a very good friend. I’ll never forget back during the pandemic lockdown, when Jon would reach out to check in on me when I wasn’t comfortable coming in for workouts. He’d send me workouts to do in my basement and follow up to ask how they went. Without that, I’m not sure I would have stayed at Prototype through the long term.”
What are your hobbies and activities outside Prototype?
“I always joke that if I didn’t have to work, I’d be a ‘hobbyist’ and just try new and different hobbies all the time. Hobbies are my hobby. As a dad, most of what I spend time on outside of the gym is spending time with my kids and supporting them in what they’re doing. Sometimes it feels like my son’s soccer (getting to practices and games) is a part-time job. But I love watching my kids enjoy their activities. Lately, while I’ve been off work, I’ve been spending a lot of time building up a home lab to run local AI models and building software with those models. I’m sure once I get back to work I won’t want to spend so much time on my computer, but it’s been fun learning some of the latest developments that I haven’t had time for while working.”
How has training here changed your day-to-day life?
“I think Prototype gives me two big things in my life. The most important is the sense of community and social connection on a daily basis. The second is accountability to continually improve my health and fitness. My fitness goals are pretty simple — I want to enjoy the process and feel accomplished as I work out consistently, and then be ready for anything. There are so many things that are better and more enjoyable in life when you’re fit, whether it’s walking 12 miles with the family at Disney World and still having some energy to keep going when the kids want to, or whether it’s running a road race or doing a Hyrox event with folks from the gym. If you’re out of shape or in some phase of ‘trying to get back in shape’ those things are either off limits or much less fun.”
What are you training toward right now?
“One new goal I have this year is to speed up my recovery. I had a big scare this year, where I suffered a stroke, which has forced me to dial back my training and focus on recovery. Over the next few months, I’m hoping to get the root cause of my stroke addressed and incrementally work back to 100%, with the hope that later this year, I can catch up to where I was and maybe push a little farther. It would be nice to do another Hyrox this year when fully recovered.”
From the data: Being “ready for anything” is exactly what seven years of training has built. Chris’s deadlift sits at 350 lb, his back squat at 285, his bench at 230. He cut his Helen Rx time from 15:35 in 2021 to 12:23 in 2024 — same workout, same standard, three minutes faster. The base is there. The comeback is just the next chapter.
What Seven Years of Data Says About Chris
Chris’s training history was reviewed as part of his Athlete Performance Report — 1,676 logged entries across nearly 800 unique training days. The story it tells isn’t about peak numbers. It’s about a guy who keeps showing up, year after year, and gets steadily better.
Chris’s seventh year at Prototype was his most consistent — more training days logged in 2025 than in any year prior. The kind of consistency you can’t fake.
2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025. Chris has signed up for the CrossFit Open every year since the pandemic and tested himself against the workouts every February-March.
On Thanksgiving morning 2025, Chris took on Murph alongside his wife Heather. Logged simply: “Half w/Heather.” That’s the Family Membership in one workout entry.
Training Together, Doing Hard Things Together
The Lacasses were one of the first families to sign up for our Family Membership — the program we built so adults and kids in the same household can take advantage of group classes and youth programming together. Our mission is to get families moving, having shared experiences, and being in the arena doing hard things side by side. Chris and his family have lived that from the start — whether it’s walking 12 miles at Disney with energy to spare, getting his son to and from soccer, or showing up at the gym week after week as a household that values being fit for the life they want to live.
